Steps of a Veneer Peeling Process
The first step consists of preparing logs, including debarking, conditioning or tenderizing depending upon the type of wood. The log is then placed inside a veneer peeler, in which a knife cuts a feather-thin sheet of veneer continuously off the log as it spins. The veneer is trimmed to the desired dimensions, and can then go on to be dried, graded, and compiled into sheets of plywood.

In a traditional spindle veneer lathe, the log is held in place by one or two center spindles while in spindleless veneer peelers logs are rotated between pairs of driven pressure rollers. With the structure of round little grains and fully sapwood, most parts of tree can be peeled into thin wood boards with veneer peeling edge.
